IBM is encouraging it’s people to blog and wiki.
According to the executive summary, IBM is encouraging the use of blogs, wikis and other forms of communication in order to help employees learn from others and share information about their own work.
Learn from others? Share information about their own work? Why would that be good for business?
Will,
We were having a similar conversation in class the other day. It was about blogging and school. We were thinking maybe the teacher could keep a blog of assignments, or neat books he/she has read lately. Then the student could comment on how they liked the assignment, or certain troubles they had with the assignment.
Learn from others? Share information about their own work? Why would that be good for education?
Thank you,
Moe The Student
Get a cluetrain, IBM. I think there are some serious self-protective mechanisms that have to be worked through when using blogs. Maybe I don’t want to share my cool widget idea with the guy in the next cubicle who has been known to steal intellectual property from his “buddies”. Trust and authenticity need to be established along with common purpose in order for this to work. Some things (as we teachers have learned the hard way) have to be earned. I don’t think folks realize the undiscovered territory we have lit out upon. There are other metaphors in other realms besides education that ain’t working either.
You are on a roll with lots of good posts lately, Will; and I am happy to see Moe the Student partaking of our Kool Aid. Do I get to be Shemp then?
