Edubloggercon 2007 at NECC

April 13, 2007 By Will Richardson

Please distribute widely…

Edubloggercon2007–This first-ever, international, one-of-a-kind “meetup” of educational bloggers will take place on Saturday, June 23rd, at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta just before the start of NECC.

All are invited–whether you yourself blog, are just an educational blog reader, or even just want to hang out with an interesting group of people.  The event is free, and you can indicate that you are coming (and see who else will be there) at the Edubloggercon wiki.  This event will be unique in that it is going to be organized by the participants in real time at the wiki.  We have access all that day to the large Open Source Pavilion room at the Conference Center and there will be free wi-fi:  beyond that is up to you.  So come join the discussion and help us plan a fun and stimulating experience.

The good folks at NECC and ISTE have thrown their support behind this. It could be a really great day depending on how the “unconference” format works out…

I believe there was a meet up in San Diego! You were there!

Well, I think the “first-ever” part is an all-day event in an “unconference” format. We’ve had several of what have been called “edubloggercons,” many organized by David Warlick, at different shows. Hopefully we can turn this into something really fun and valuable…

I’ll be there this time! I was in San Diego and didn’t get to come. Woo Hoo!

I’m thinking about coming a day early and attending! Sounds incredible!

I think you’ll find we’ve been having educational unconference format events for a while here, Will:

    http://scotedublogs.wikispaces.com/newtechmeet
attracted around 60/70 educators, including Dave Weinberger, for free wine and self-organised sharing, presenting and innovating.

BarCampScotland, which I helped to organise, too, at
    http://barcamp.org/BarCampScotland
    was a 80% edu event.

Beware the hyperbole unless you’re really sure. I think in Scotland we say “under sell, over deliver” 😉

UHGG … having it on Saturday is going to make it tough … more $$$ hotel nights … don’t know how else it could be an all day event though … I’m trying to make it happen.

The first edublogger conference I attended was last year, blogs.ac.uk (and yes, it was international). Also, last fall, I took part in a series of edublogger unconferences with a very international group touring through New Zealand. There was also an edublogger conference in Australia, the TALO swapmeet in Adelaide. The edublogger events at CADE (it’s in Winnipeg, I’m sure there will be some) this May would also preceed this conference.
