Holy Wiki

July 4, 2004 By Will Richardson

(via Tim Wilson) Think wikis are just a passing fad? This is an amazing list of wiki engines that makes me want to play even more. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been showing and talking about Wikipedia lately. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if collaborative construction of content won’t be the rule instead of the exception in the future.

What are the successful wiki’s beyond wikipedia? I can think of a few, but not very many. On the other hand I can think of hundreds of pretty good weblogs, and even three years ago I could have come up with several dozen with little effort.

I think this is a sign that the hype is getting a little ahead of the hands-on experiences.

Which isn’t to say that wiki’s suck or they’re a fad or anything.
