I’ll say this, putting this machine together the past few days has really made me realize just how appy the Web is getting. Today’s find, care of Tim, is Thinkfree which is basically a Microsoft Office online (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) that uses Java to replicate what used to be on the desktop. (Right now, I don’t even have Office installed on this machine…hmmm.) You get a gig of free storage space and you can share your documents with other people. It’s getting so there really isn’t much you need a hard drive for these days…
…unless you’re behind a school firewall.
Talking about web goodness, have you tried pageflakes? Basically this is a portal framework which you fill with mini apps such as:
online storage at box.net or openomy, videos from youtube, writeboards, calendars, gmail, to dos, sticky notes, and a multitude of others. You can create multiple pages and set different sharing options for each page. The apps can be dragged around the page as needed. I’ve been playing around with pageflakes for a couple of days and it just keeps improving.
Looks like a pretty Netvibes…
