Now that I’m a few months into the Web log takeover of my school (just kidding…I think,) I think I’ve come pretty much full circle from my belief that we were on the verge of widespread adoption in schools. I’m a dreamer, what can I say. I just think everyone will look at this and go “Holy Bejeesus! How in god’s name did I live without it?” Not so, it appears. While I have gotten a fair amount of enthusiasm back from those teachers who have put their first proverbial toe in the Web log water, people are by no means falling over themselves on the way to my office begging for their own Web space. And the concept of RSS is even slower to tip. (Hasn’t everyone been waiting for the day whey they can, on an ongoing basis, collect far too much information to possibly consume in one week much less one day???)
However, having said all that, just a couple of baby steps in the right direction here and here today. An athletic director who is happier than a pig in McDonalds about being able to post his own stuff and a pretty decent conversation developing among my Ed Tech committee. I’ve been threatening to take some of these sites “live” (i.e. link them off our school homepage) but next week I’m going to do it, dammit. That way I can shame them into posting by showing them their paltry daily hit counts and reminding them that their audience awaits.
Resistance is futile…
