Once again, so much good stuff being blogged that I haven’t had time to read and think about. It’s getting harder and harder to stay afloat, and I’m feeling so envious of those people who have made careers out of this. Oy. Home tomorrow, back at work Monday…
If Moodle wants to jump into the blog software market, then I am all for it. I am not quite as sure that the LMS and the blog should be combined (i.e. integrated). Most of us know that the abandonment rate on blogs is high…and if blogging becomes just another part of an academic exercise, particularly if it is somehow joined-at-the-hip, my fear is that as soon as a student completes the Moodle course that the Moodle blog will be abandoned. If it is a completely separate, open source, blog option perhaps that is a different story. A Moodle course on effective blogging, blog communities, and blog technology could work just as easily if the blog component isn’t actually integrated into the LMS components…and might encourage students to pursue an option on their own, somewhere else in the blogosphere. And, of course, I could be wayyy off base here. Just thinking.
Good point about extended blogging, and that’s part of the discussion here as well. Still not sure where exactly I fall with all of this.
