Quote O' the Day

January 4, 2008 By Will Richardson

“Personal learning becomes possible because everybody – and not just teachers – can teach. Why does this matter? This: we should not be teaching our students using video, we should be teaching our students to use video, not so they can be better students, but so they can be better teachers.” Stephen Downes

And, I would add, we should be teaching ourselves how to use video too, so we can model better teaching for our students so they can be better teachers.

It all boils down to teaching a man to fish. I think the key to life-long learning is learning how to teach oneself.

Hmmm – and if I’ve learned about teaching … how to teach – does that somehow make me a better learner because I understand a bit more about how the process works? Just a thought.

I would think you are a better learner because you know how to teach, but not every teacher is a better learner. Not sure if that makes complete sense but you know what I mean. Does passion and connection to what you are learning and to others play a part?
