Totally off topic, but I just have to rave about Rhapsody which will probably be the end of my CD buying days. I know it’s not new, but after a write-up in the Times today, I decided to try it out. About $100 a year to listen to as much streamed music as I can fit into my day from over 400,000 songs in their library. If I want to burn any of the songs to CD, I just buy each for 79 cents. (Not every song can be written to CD, however.)I’ve spent the last three hours stocking my library with over 150 albums from my college days right through Annie Lennox’s new one, which if you haven’t heard it is simply awesome. In those three hours of streaming through my wireless tablet PC, only one brief pop. Amazing. I can download the Rhapsody software to as many computers as I want, my library and playlists are saved on their server so I can access them from any of my computers, and I can create hours worth of mixed and matched music that I love without having to even turn on my CD player. I need to do a little digging into running this through my reciever and big speakers, which I’m sure might require some additional configuring. But I am simply amazed at how easy and how wide a selection is available. Not everything I wanted, mind you, but more than enough to keep me occupied for a long, long time.
