Welcome to Weblogg-ed Word Press Style

April 7, 2006 By Will Richardson

Whew…we made it! It took most of the day yesterday for the import over from Manila to build. I have to say it was kind of interesting watching old posts from 2, 3, even 4 years ago scroll by. A weird time machine effect.

Anyway, looks like the site is about 90% rebuilt, but there is still some work to do. James Farmer has been just incredible with his time and effort on my behalf, and he’s even offered to do some tweaks while I’m taking my break. I’ll get to the rest of it when I return. The main thing is that the feed appears to be working. If you’re reading this in your aggregator, it would be great if a few of you could leave a comment just to confirm it.

Anyway, now I’m really on vacation, with one big thing off my plate. (Though I’m itching to really dig into WP.) Thanks again, James.

Yep, Bloglines works just fine. Glad you’ve seen the light and have decided to use WordPress! Please could you change the smilies though? Those ones are pretty irritating…

    Hi:

Congratulation on your transition to the new server software… which leads me to why I’m posting.

I’m a long-time Frontier/Manila user, having run my own Frontier servers since way back when it the Manila component didn’t even exist and the software was free. I’ve also been thinking about moving to a newer product recently so your post about transitioning to Word Press from Manila caught my eye.

Can you point me to any resources that will help me with this process. I’d very very grateful if you could do this!

    Thanks,

    Dan

Glad that your system change went well, Will. The RSS feeds from my previous Drupal install no longer work since my transfer to WordPress last month.

Just last evening I finished “importing” several years’ worth of posts into WP too. Mine was a manual import as what I was coming from could not be dumped. Sigh . . .

Anyhow, I pick up your RSS feed in my aggregator and all looks fine here.

Congratulatins on the move to WP, Will, and what are you doing reading this? Take a deep breath, and step away from the computer….

If any other readers are contemplating moving from Manila/Frontier to WordPress, it’s made (relatively) easy with the script from Jason Levine available here:

    http://www.queso.com/manilaToMT.php

It’s not perfect, since Manila’s “Stories” aren’t imported properly. I’m still working on figuring out that and other Manila transition issues with five years’ worth of blog entries. But since WP imports MT pretty smoothly, it’s worth doing.

I was here before because I have this blog bookmarked…. But Ido not recognize it, so you must have made some serious changes in the design?
