Save Your OPML

April 16, 2005 By Will Richardson

As it seems Bloglines is stuck this morning (I keep getting kicked out to the login page and can’t get to my feeds…anyone else experiencing this?) just a friendly reminder to myself and the rest of you who use the service: back up your opml file. I need to set a reminder on my calendar somewhere as I haven’t done it since the last time their site had a hiccup.

Another powerful reminder of just how dependent I’ve become on RSS…

The opml file is the list of all your rss subscriptions. If necessary, it can be imported into other aggregators or back into Bloglines should something blow up. Here’s how you get it in Bloglines. Click on “Edit” from the top of your feed list and then scroll to the very bottom. Click on “Export Subscriptions.” Take the page that comes up and save it as an xml file somewhere on your computer. You can then import this file at a later time if necessary. If you make a lot of changes to your feed list, you should export your subscriptions regularly.
