Sunday SkitchArt

July 29, 2007 By Will Richardson

Presentation1

I have to say, I love Skitch. It’s a MAC only tool that makes it oh so easy to snip pictures from the screen, annotate them, play with them and then, and here’s the cool part, easily upload them to your “MySkitch” webpage where you get all sorts of code you can then use to publish it out. I used to love to make collages when I was a little kid. So to experiment, I did the above in about 15 minutes using Flickr Creative Commons photos (listed below) uploaded the result in one click, and then just snagged the code and pasted it in.

That, seems to me, to be covering the “last mile” in terms of some of these non-bloggy tools, the getting it online really easy part. If you want to see that done with screencasts, take a look at Jing. You capture your video, click a button, and it’s online for you to link to or do whatever. That publishing hump continues to get smaller.

Anyway, just a bit of play on a rainy Sunday morning…

(BTW, I’ve got four Skitch invites for any MAC users who may want one…leave a comment with your correct e-mail…I send ’em if I got ’em.)

Skitch looks like a great classroom too for our iBook lab. Please send an invite if you have one left.

Will, my Mac is at work (will pick up tomorrow) but I’d love to see this tool for our districts that are Mac based. I can see this as a good match with Flickr Storm that David Jakes shared with me at NECC. Thanks for sharing.

Love the posts, keep them coming… Subscribed on RSS. Listened to 2 of your presentations at BLC ’07. Looking forward to opening up my new blog to the people I met there, inc. u. Now, can I get a Skitch?

Great tools, Will. Thanks. Screencast-o-matic.com has a web-based screencasting / embedding program for free, by the way. Fast and convenient.

    Hey will,

Just thought I’d let you know. There is this guy that does a podcast all about these really cool little apps for mac. He doesn’t do it anymore, but you can still listen to all the podcasts. Try digging around in there, you never know what cool stuff you’ll find.

Another neat MAC tool (with the PC version in beta right now) is ComicLife. It’s made by the same company as Skitch – plasq.com.

[…]Today, Will Richardson wrote about a new program, currently in beta, called Skitch. The same company that makes Skitch, Plasq, also makes a wonderful program where you can use images to create comic strips, ComicLife. […]

Hi, If you have more invites it would be great to get one. I am working with teachers and pupils i9n primary 5 and they are using Mac laptops, so it would be cool to test Skitch myself.

    Cheers

Will, I am an avid follower. I was able to get Skitch and have started using it but I can’t figure out how to do the collage that you have posted. I keep trying but I think I need a tutorial. Hints?
